Emetophobia Support

Emetophobia is a powerful phobia that can significantly impact the decision that you make about family planning. Find out more here about it’s causes and how to overcome it once and for all!

What is emetophobia:

Emetophobia is the fear of being sick, or in some cases, seeing other people be sick also.

It is a powerful phobia that can cause significant distress, anxiety and avoidance behaviours that give you a false sense of being in control by limiting your chances of being in a situation where vomiting may occur such as pregnancy, or being around vomiting such as in motherhood.

Emetophobia and other anxiety issues:

If you are struggling with emetophobia, you may also be experiencing other generalised anxieties, health anxiety, fears, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders and even panic attacks across all areas of your life.  This means you essentially get “stuck” in worries and emotional responses where you are trying to pre-empt what may occur in certain situations in order to avoid them and “protect” yourself against possible illness.

This avoidance of places, activities, events, eating out or experiences such as pregnancy and birth will be having a significant impact on your daily life, the decisions you make and the things that you do and will be clouding your judgment and reducing your enjoyment in life.

Treatment and Support for Emetophobia:

Treatment for emetophobia involves helping you to identify and change your thought patterns, breakdown and overcome your fears, recognise what your needs are (to feel safe and healthy) and be able to meet those in a more emotionally balanced way and give you tools to overcome your anxiety.

It is not possible to necessarily prevent vomiting from happening, especially in pregnancy, but what we can do is help you to overcome the fear of it through psychological and neurological support, so that your fears and phobias aren’t controlling your life or dictating what you do and the decisions you make. The Mother Nurture Method programme will help you overcome this phobia!

Overcoming this phobia will significantly improve the quality of your life and free up your emotional and mental energy to focus on the thigs in life that matter the most to you.
