POSTPARTUM RAGE SUPPORT

Postpartum rage, or postnatal rage, is condition that affects some women following childbirth and is characterised by outbursts of anger, rage and frustration. It is a sign your needs are not being met. Find out more about it and how to overcome it here:

What is postnatal rage:

Those who experience it can have sudden and intense outbursts of anger, frustration or rage directed at those closest to them.  These episodes can be overwhelming for both the woman dealing with it and those around her.

Postpartum rage is not the same as postnatal depression, although if left untreated has the potential to turn into depression.  But they are two separate conditions that need different levels of support, however both can be overcome.

Postpartum rage causes:

Postpartum, or postnatal, rage is not fully understood but is linked to changes in hormone levels associated with pregnancy, birth and early motherhood leading to mood swings and irritability.  These mood wings can be further heightened by the demands of childbirth and motherhood while dealing with sleep deprivation, under nourishment and stress.

As with all anxiety based symptoms, postnatal rage is showing that there is a significant need within the mother that is not being met, which could be things like support or rest which they may be unaware of needing, unable to have or unable to accept.

A woman will feel guilt, shame and worry following an outburst of rage and will need extra support and comfort to get through.

Treatment for Postpartum Rage:

Rage won’t be the only challenge you are facing if you are dealing with postpartum rage.  There will be other underlying, unresolved, issues that may also need to be addressed.  So treatment may require emotional health support as well as rest, recuperation, self-care and support from friends and family.

The Mother Nurture Method programme will help you to understand how you’re feeling, overcome the underlying causes for your rage and give you a set of coping mechanisms to manage your emotions.

Anxiety medication may also be prescribed via your GP, but may only alleviate your symptoms rather than help you overcome them.  Emotional health support is your first port of call and will significantly reduce your rage and help you balance your emotions during a transitional time in your life.

What you are experiencing is a normal response to an overwhelming and demanding time in your life, and with my support you will be able to overcome it in 8 sessions or less through my tailored 1-1 programme; The Mother Nurture Method.

Support available in North Herts (Stevenage, Letchworth, Hitchin, Baldock, Knebworth, Royston) and online nationwide across England.
